This etching was inspired by a visit to the 'Tyne Cote Memorial' in Ypres, Belgium. My husband's Great Uncle Sid, died at Passendale in 1917, and this picture pays homage to him and all those other young men who tragically lost their lives in World War I. This etching was included in the NZ Academy of Fine Arts' recent exhibition 'Art on Life'. I am instead, using a non toxic solution of copper sulphate and ordinary table salt. Here is my recipe. 100gms Copper Sulphate & 100 gms Salt, dissolved in 3 litres of warm water. The solution is very fierce, so the plate needs to be feathered and watched carefully. 3 minutes in the mix, is usually enough to achieve a good etch.
